Bhadra dam is built on the river Bhadra, which is a tributary of the River Tungabhadra. Bhadra river project dam is situated in Lakkavalli , Tarikere Taluk , chickamagalur dist. The Bhadra dam was constructed between 1947 and 1965. The dam features a height of 59.13 meters (194.0 ft) The Bhadra river flows through the Bhadra wildlife tiger sanctuary and Bhadra reservoir. It is convenient to access this place from Shimoga which is around 25kms. Monsoon is the best season to visit . Walking on the dam is not permitted but from the entrance there is a hillock with steps which gives scenic view of the backwaters of the dam and adjoining Bhadra wildlife reserve.
